Padres or missionaries run the mission. There were at least two padres working at each mission. They would supervise the tasks that would have to be done. One padre was in charge of the indoor activities. The missionary had a journal of the mission. He also kept a list of supplies that were used there. This missionary was in charge of teaching the Indians the Spanish religion. He also led church services, performed baptisms, marriages, and funeral services. The other padre was in charge of outdoor activities. He was in charge of the Indians who made adobe bricks and tiles, planted and harvested crops, and took care of livestock such as cattle. Any padre could always do the work of another.
