A mars rover is a automated motor vehicle that propels itself after it's landing in Mars. Mars rovers can examine more territory in Mars. After all, it is a Mars Rover. In 1996, NASA built the first successful Mars Rover and was launched in December 4, 1996 and landed on July 4, 1997. There are some rovers that were succsessful. Some rovers were not. Here is the names of the rovers that did not succeed.

Mars 2, Prop-M rover, 1971, failed Mars 3, Prop-M rover, 1971, failed Sojourner rover, Mars Pathfinder, landed successfully on July 4, 1997. Communications were lost on September 27, 1997.
