This lesson was designed for use with 5th graders.
  • Read the book Eats, Shoots, and Leaves Use a document camera to display the book as you read if possible so that students can see the pictures and punctuation. Be sure to read the introduction and take time to discuss the pictures and text as you go.
  • Pass out the handout with the words to Eats, Shoots and Leaves
  • Have each student choose 1 sentence that they would like to illustrate. There are 28 sentences, so there will be few if any duplicates.
  • Give students an opportunity to copy their sentences onto a blank piece of paper, and illustrate their sentence.
  • When students are finished you may choose to bind the pages into a book and share the newly illustrated version together as a class.
